The Cathedral of Seville is the world’s largest Gothic Cathedral and the third Christian Temple in size after St. Peter’s Basilica of the Vatican and St. Paul’s Cathedral. Its architecture is a mixture of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, academic and styles Gothic, because its construction dragged on from 1401 until 1507, making subsequent reforms, the last in 1928. The Cathedral is construllo on the old main mosque of Seville, which preserves the amended minaret, which serves as belltower and is known as the Giralda. The Cathedral wanted to so great that you did not know another of equal size, and the result was a construction of 116 meters long and 76 in width, with a dome that exceeds 40 metres in height. The monumental complex that forms the Cathedral looks complemented by the Giralda, the Patio de los Naranjos and the Royal Chapel.
The Patio de los Naranjos is a courtyard as a cloister of the Cathedral, being one of the most visited attractions of the Cathedral. Inthe Chapel Royal is Kings Fernando III are buried and his son, Alfonso X, as well as other members of the Royal family of the time. The Giralda, with 97.5 meters in height, is the most representative of the City Tower and, although today is the Bell Tower of the Cathedral, was built on the Minaret of the great mosque of Seville. Given that the Giralda is construllo in the image of the Minaret of the mosque of Koutoubia in Marrakech (Morocco), and since this construction remains upright in its original state, we can see in it a faithful picture of what could be the Giralda before its transformation into Christian belfry. The lower two-thirds correspond to the Arab period, while the upper is a Renaissance Bell Tower created in Christian times. At the top of the Giralda you can find a ball, called jar, on which stands a statue of blonce, which operates as veleta, which is called Giraldillo, being one of the largest of the European Renaissance sculptures.
